Liberty Street - Ancient Men's Beaded Bracelet, 17th Century Trade Beads, Matte Indonesian Beads, African Gooseberries, Kakamba Beads

Inspired by the mix of modern, mid century and old architecture on Liberty Street in New York City, the Liberty Street is a truly collectible piece. The feature beads are 17th century African trading beads that were carried for trade with African tribes by the sailing European ships of the time. Some of these beads were re-heated by the tribesman, then re-pressed or "squeezed" to release all the good spirits inside them. Sometimes called King or Spirit beads, they are quite rare and collectible. the feature beads are surrounded on the string by a variety of antique and vintage beads from Africa, Czech Republic and Indonesia in matte and glossy finishes including striped Picasso Czech beads and muted matte Indonesian beads. You choose the bead surrounding the King beads, available with blue Kakamba cold-pressed (“Prosser”) beads or solid red gooseberry beads from Kenya. Liberty Street is an exceptional and valuable bracelet at a reasonable price. Own a piece of maritime history today.

The yellow Spirit or King 17th century beads vary in size and shape. Also available are 2 bracelets with oval shaped King beads. Some still contain the sailing flag colors of the countries ship, others have faded or been compressed out. Please review all photos.

We gather our beads from all over the world, taking particular notice of those beads with culture, history and collectability, and string them on sturdy elastic cord. PLEASE READ OUR ABOUT PAGE FOR EXPLANATION OF BEAD VARIATION AND COLOR.

Just ask...

Custom and personalized orders

Yes of course! We can make any of our styles in any length. We also offer commission orders and will do our best to collaborate with you to get the best result. Remember, we only use vintage and antique beads so inventory may be gone when you ask for a customized style.

Care instructions

Many of our bracelets include antique bone, horn and natural seed beads. All of these are susceptible to damage from excessive moisture. We recommend not wearing them while swimming or exercising. Our metal beads and some of our bone beads will patina over time. This is normal and the original color pallet accounts for the transition in tone.

Do you use software to enhance your photos?

The inspiration pictures at the end of the listings are enhanced with photo software. This is to fully express the pallet and overall feeling we want you to perceive of these places. Our product photos, all those before the inspiration picture, are not enhanced, and, to the best of our ability, reflect what you will be wearing upon delivery. Occasionally, as we complete final edits of a new listing, we will come across a small loss of pixels, white pin holes, in the photo after transferring to a web page. We do use a filler software program to correct those minute transfer errors. Bead color and tone may vary as antique beads colors can slightly vary from one string to another.
